Interesting tenants have woven a rich tapestry of stories that have survived more than 60 years. Earl Scruggs (of Grand Ole Opry fame) visit to the cottage, the loud escapades of the couple who called the cottage home during the 1940's and 50's, and the "Bird Lady" are just a few of the mountain folk who left an imprint of remembrance.
The skilled hands of the current owner breathed new life into this home of unique possibilities. Finely crafted into a 4 bedroom, 3-bath cottage, Pete's Cottage is a testimony to an artist's imagination. Where once an old Model A stood is now a beautifully designed and decorated living room with a gas-burning fireplace. An original load-bearing wooden post has been preserved as a part of the kitchen that is appointed with every convenience. A crisp white and midnight blue bedroom was once the apple cider press room (an antique apple press still resides in the bedroom). Mr. Pete's workshop was transformed into a full bath and a formal dining area that overlooks the fishpond.
Only 1.5 miles from Biltmore House and historic Biltmore Village, Pete's Cottage is tucked between water gardens, a cottage flower garden and towering hemlocks. Cozy (1500 square feet), comfortable, convenient and clearly historic are the benchmarks of Pete's Cottage. Come and visit and stay at long as you like!
